NASAがキング牧師の記念碑とスーパームーンの写真を掲載しました。
といってもこの写真、 2016年11月14日 に撮影されたものです。
日本人からすると、何で今？という気もします。
アメリカではキング牧師の誕生日（1月15日）に近い毎年1月第3月曜日がキング牧師記念日（Martin Luther King, Jr. Day）として祝日となっています。
原文の「 the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial 」の「 Memorial 」は、多くの場合「記念館」になりますが、この場合では記念碑が適切です。
この記念碑は、キング牧師の有名なスピーチが刻まれた石碑で、「希望の石」と呼ばれている花崗岩でできた石像です。（有名な観光地ですので訪れたことがある人も多いのでは）

A supermoon is seen as it sets over the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, in Washington. A supermoon occurs when the Moon’s orbit is closest (perigee) to Earth. That morning, the Moon was the closest it has been to Earth since 1948, and it appeared 30 percent brighter and 14 percent bigger than the average monthly full Moon.
2016年11月14日月曜日、ワシントンにあるキング牧師の記念碑と沈みゆくスーパームーンの写真です。 スーパームーンは、月の軌道が地球に最も近い（近地点）ときに発生します。 この写真が撮影された朝は、月は1948年以来地球に最も近く、満月の平均よりも30％明るく、14％大きく見えました。
